Participation Areas for the Inclusion of Roma

On the occasion of the beginning of an important European program (CoSpIRom),
which is coordinated by the UTH on the inclusion of Roma in basic social
processes and structures, the University of Thessaly and the KEKPA-DIEK
Municipality of Volos co-organize a workshop titled: Creating Equal Participation Areas for the Inclusion of Roma.
The conference will discuss issues related to the role of education, the
media and the police in the social inclusion of the Roma population. The main
objectives of the Program, which includes the specific workshop, include:
- Creating common spaces of
interaction and synergy between the two communities.
- Demolition of symbolic borders,
confrontation of stereotypes and practices of discrimination
- Strengthening the Roma's individual
and collective identity. Recognition and expression of their state rights and
obligations
- Contributing to the improvement of
European and national strategies for the social inclusion of the Roma
- Exchange of practices between the
participating European countries
This European Program, which is coordinated by the UTH
is of particular value, as a very small number of programs in this category are
approved by the European Commission following rigorous evaluation procedures.
Participating in the program are Greek universities (University of Pisa,
UNIPI), West University of Timisoara (WUT), University of Pisa, UNESCO.
